About the event

Focus on Fibre Arts Association (FFAA) is excited to welcome Bill Stearman, during his travelling Queer Elders project.  Come and learn how the project will create textile-based, interactive, multimedia, wall art; quilts that will advance quilt making, while recording queer history, told by elders, and organized by Supreme Court decisions and legislative acts of Parliament.


Bill has already toured through Atlantic Canada, Northern Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, provided 20 presentations (to Queer groups, quilt groups and church groups), close to a dozen workshops, and 37 interviews. His  goal is to continue this through the remaining provinces and at least two of the three territories by the end of October.


Bill says “While rooted in quilting traditions, the pieces I will create for this project will push boundaries. They will be textile-based, immersive, multimedia quilted wall hangings incorporating 3D elements, QR codes linking to audiovisual material, and innovative techniques including fabric…
