Description

Participants will paint fabric to create book cloth using paste and acrylic paint. By using tools such as palette knives, brushes, stencils and combs, various pattern and textures can transform plain covers into decorative textured surfaces. This technique will also be used for the inside paper pages of the book. Pages can be further embellished with cheesecloth, collaged papers or threads to create a truly one-of-kind journal. No prior experience with bookbinding is needed.  

What Does the Student Bring to Class?

  • cork-backed aluminum 12” ruler,
  • retractable X-acto blade with refills,
  • self-healing cutting mat,
  • pencil,
  • large-eyed sharp needle,
  • scissors (fabric and paper),
  • blow-dryer to hasten drying time,
  • tools to pattern with such as combs, large forks, corks, paint brushes, etc.
  • any small decorative papers, metallic threads or fabrics such as mesh or cheesecloth to embellish with

This following kit is included in your registration fee

Each student with receive a kit containing all of the book materials they will need to create one journal.  This includes:

  • cotton cover fabric,
  • bookcloth paper (washi),
  • lining paper, pastes,
  • text papers,
  • handout
  • linen thread.
  • Also included is a supply of acrylic paints in assorted colours for shared classroom use.

Workshop Details

Saturday, October 26 - 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday, October 27 - 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM  FFAA Studio 10554 - 110 St NW Entrance through the back door  Bring your lunch and indoor shoes  Open to FFAA members only. Either with an individual membership or through a member Guild   Maximum Students = 14   Registration Fee is $70 per student.
