About the event

Description

Traditional Japanese embroidery is an ancient form of surface embroidery that has been admired by many but practised by few.

Using traditional Japanese goldwork techniques, embroidery tools and fibres we create a small 8 cm X 10 cm teapot on a silk and wool blend of kimono fabric.

Techniques covered include transparent paper design transfer, laying '#3' gold threads and katayori in a 'to and fro' as well as round and round, line of held thread and creating a sinking needle.

Marian lives in Edmonton and is an active member of the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild for the last 30 years.  She has instructed guild members in many techniques including tatting, schwalm, cutwork, withdrawn embroidery, raised or stumpwork, Japanese bead and Japanese silk embroidery.  Marian is a certified instructor of traditional Japanese embroidery by The Japanese Embroidery Centre in Atlanta USA.  With around 25 students, Marian also travels to Toronto,…
