About the event
Description:Â
Kawandi quilting is a traditional craft in western India that was brought there from African slaves. The original quilts were constructed from the outside in using scraps of saris and hand stitched in place. In this Zoom class you will create a finished quilt, totally escaping piecing the top. It feels like magic, but it is really simple and fun. Traditional Kawandi quilts are sewn by hand. Jennifer has also adapted this technique so you can construct on the machine. Both ways will be discussed.
Jennifer’s favorite part of working on a Kawandi is how relaxing it is. It is very forgiving - there is no right or wrong way to stitch. You can zone out and enjoy the rhythm of stitching and playing with fabric combinations as you work around and around the quilt.
Jennifer Strauser is a quilting educator and designer who works with some of the top…
