Sheep Shearing Farm Tour at Bryncelyn Estate - Tour 1

Come visit a local sheep farm in the prairie fields of Alberta. Bryncelyn Estate is located within an hour’s drive from the city limits of Edmonton, and we are pleased to bring tours to the farm for their spring shearing.

The tour takes place the morning of shearing day. At the tour, you will be introduced to the Harris family, their farm, and flock of sheep. We will see how sheep are shorn; the next steps in preparing the wool, called skirting, where you are welcome to participate in this first pass of cleaning the wool; and finally, some of the ways the wool is used – from waste wool, spun wool, to finished, undyed wool. There will be samples of knitted and crocheted items along with some weaving on hand, all made with Bryncelyn yarn and wool.
